Register for the inaugural celebratory and charity event at 4K4Charity.com
Portland, Ore. – Sept. 2, 2015 – Elemental Technologies, the leading supplier of software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, together with co-founding sponsors Simple and Puppet Labs, today announced the inaugural 4K 4Charity Fun Run in Portland, Oregon to be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015. This 4-kilometer (2.49-mile) event celebrates the achievements of the growing technology industry in the region and promotes diversity, while focusing on wellness, networking amongst peers, and most importantly, giving back to the community. Proceeds from the 2015 run will be designated to Rosemary Anderson High School (RAHS).
Registration is now open for the 4K 4Charity Fun Run in PDX at 4K4Charity.com. The run is also sponsored by the Portland Development Commission (PDC), the Technology Association of Oregon (TAO), and Silicon Florist. Sponsorship packages are still available but limited. The deadline for commitments is September 21, 2015. Inquiries may be directed to [email protected].
Recognizing that Oregon still falls below the national average for software-related jobs, and that many of these jobs are not equitably distributed along gender or racial lines, the 4K 4Charity Fun Run in Portland is one effort to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce. Proceeds will go to Portland-based organizations focused on reaching and serving students underrepresented in technology university programs and professional careers.
This year’s recipient, RAHS, is an Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (OIC) community-based alternative high school which provides open-door, year round access to students who have either been expelled or dropped out of public high school and includes many who are homeless. RAHS serves as a “last chance” to complete a high school education, and is currently achieving a 90% graduation rate amongst students who enroll and attend classes. The school plans to use proceeds from the 2015 4K 4Charity Fun Run to accelerate its Technological Literacy & Applied Computer Skill Education initiative.
“We are proud to collaborate on this first-of-its-kind event, which we hope will begin an enduring tradition of proactive support by all those involved in the technology landscape to bridge the industry’s racial, economic and gender divides,” said Patrick Quinton, executive director of the Portland Development Commission.
“Inclusion and diversity must be part of the way we do business to make Tech Town Portland a premiere industry hub,” said Sam Blackman, CEO and co-founder of Elemental. “This event is the first step in the right direction and we hope you will join us at the starting line.”
The 4K 4Charity Fun Run in Portland will start at 3:00 pm on October 21 next to the Hawthorne Bridge in Waterfront Park and will follow a fast, flat course along the Willamette River. After completing the race, participants are invited to the World Trade Center outdoor plaza to celebrate the event over light snacks and beverages, music and camaraderie.
