Marlene Richter, Executive Director, The Shade Tree – March 16, 2016

At The Shade Tree, our doors are always open. Every year, more than 6,000 women and children will enter our facility as victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, human trafficking and homelessness. Each individual’s journey is different, but our goal is always the same: safety first, then self-sufficiency.

Accessible 24 hours a day, our 38,000 square foot facility provides shelter, safety and resources to hundreds in need every night. Designed specifically to meet the needs of women and children, The Shade Tree is equipped with sleeping rooms, libraries, playrooms, kitchen and laundry rooms, and services for victims of violence.

As the largest shelter of its kind in Nevada, The Shade Tree also works with each woman to build a success plan for her and her family. Our many programs and services aim to prepare residents for the next chapter of their lives, including workforce readiness, childcare and housing assistance programs.

The women and children residing at The Shade Tree have access to these life-changing resources thanks to our many generous donors, including 4K 4Charity. By running or walking in this year’s 4K 4Charity Fun Run at the 2016 NAB Show, you can help us continue to support thousands of individuals as they embark on healthy, sustainable and self-sufficient futures – one step at a time.
