About

The 4K 4Charity Fun Run Series is a 2.49-mile running and walking event. Since its founding in 2014, the series has raised more than $1.2 Million (USD) in gross proceeds for global and local nonprofits that support increased diversity and inclusion initiatives. Whether you’re a competitive runner, prefer a leisurely stroll, or just want to support from the sidelines, the 4K 4Charity Fun Run makes it easy for participants and sponsors to get active and give back.

WHAT MAKES 4K 4CHARITY EVENTS UNIQUE?

Besides the unusual 4km distance, 100% of your registration fee is tax-deductible and is donated directly to our nonprofit beneficiaries. Whether you run, walk, or simply donate, feel good knowing your contribution supports initiatives and programs that are making a positive impact around the world. Past beneficiaries range from global humanitarian agencies to technology and education organizations, including Mercy Corps, Girls Who Code, Heifer International, Stichting NewTechKids, Technovation, KairosPDX and Rosemary Anderson High School.

WHY 4 KILOMETERS?

The inaugural 4K 4Charity Fun Run took place in 2014 at IBC Show in Amsterdam. At the time, 4K Ultra HD technology was a new, innovative, and prominent topic in the technology industry. During a planning meeting for IBC, a suggestion was made about implementing a 4km run, in which all proceeds would be donated to charity. It seemed like a novel idea, and it proved to be a success with 250+ individuals on the course and more than $28,000 donated. Building on the established momentum, the next event was held shortly after in Las Vegas at the 2015 NAB Show. In October 2015, the 4K 4Charity Fun Run made its way to Portland, and in 2018, the 4K 4Charity Fun Run made its way to Los Angeles for the SMPTE Annual Technical Conference.
